Donation Drive for School Supplies Set for Saturday in Oxford

New or used donations will go toward Backpack Basics, which provides students in need with school supplies, such as backpacks, etc.

Patch is teaming up with one of our favorite local nonprofit organizations,  of Oxord, in an effort to provide students in the Naugatuck Valley with school supplies.

Backpack Basics is a nonprofit organization started by Oxford High School junior Will Denslow with a mission to put school supplies into the hands of students in the Naugatuck Valley. The organization is working with the Spooner House homeless shelter of Shelton to identify families in need. The Spooner House says there are some 950 children in the Valley that don't have the supplies they need at school. Backpack Basics hopes to give supplies to those students as needed and at the beginning of next school year..

Tomorrow (Saturday, March 31), Oxford Patch will hold a donation drive for school supplies with Backpack Basics and the Oxford High School Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) organization, of which Denslow is president of the Oxford chapter. The drive will be held at, 70 Oxford Road, Oxford, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. We are seeking donations of new or used school supplies such as backpacks, pens, pencils, notebooks, etc., gift cards of monetary donations.
