The Shelton High School boys basketball team clinched a Class LL state tournament berth in its final game of the regular season, defeating West Haven 44-41 on Monday.
Christian Pierre scored 22 points for the Gaels, who improved to 8-12 after snapping a two-game losing streak. Shelton has doubled its win total from last year (4-16).

Kyle Packnick contributed eight points and Stefon Coram added seven for Shelton, which saw only five players score in the entire game.
Shelton jumped out to a 12-4 first-quarter lead but fell behind 21-20 at the intermission.

However, the Gaels outscored the Blue Devils 16-8 in the third quarter to take a 36-28 lead into the final period.
Tieron Jackson scored 12 points for West Haven, which concluded its season at 6-14.
By virtue of the win, Shelton earned a berth in the SCC playoffs as the No. 14 seed and will play at No. 3 Career on Thursday.
