Shelton Schools Closed Friday [Updated]

Shelton City Hall is opening at 12 p.m. and the Shelton Community Center is opening at 11 a.m.

The Shelton Senior Center and Shelton Libraries are closed today.

As of about 4 p.m., the National Weather Service is calling for a 100 percent chance of snow with six to 10 inches of accumulation possible by Friday morning. One to two more inches may fall by Friday afternoon.

Friday's forecast is: "Snow likely with widespread blowing snow before 10 a.m., then widespread blowing snow and a chance of snow between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., then widespread blowing snow after 1 p.m.

"Cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing, with a high near 15. Wind chill values as low as -7. Blustery, with a north wind 15 to 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible."
  • Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around -4. Northwest wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm in the evening.
  • Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 25. Light west wind becoming southwest 5 to 10 mph in the morning.
  • Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 20.
  • Sunday: A slight chance of snow, freezing rain, and sleet before 11am, then a chance of rain and snow between 11am and noon, then a chance of rain after noon. Patchy fog. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 40. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
The NWS said a combination of storms will hit from the southern Appalachians into New England. The heaviest snow will fall from central New York to the Massachusetts coast.

The Board of Aldermen Special Public Hearing on Ordinances has been cancelled for tonight due to the impending storm. The meeting will be rescheduled.

According to the Shelton Schools Website:

"Due to impending inclement weather and the high probability of unsafe road conditions later in the day – the Shelton Public School System will be observing an early dismissal today on Thursday, January 2, 2014. 

There will be no PM Kindergarten. All Afternoon and Evening School Activities are cancelled.

The Early Dismissal Schedule that is posted on the website outlines the approximate arrival time of your student home from their individual school on this shortened day."
