Dems. Himes, DeLauro Back Shelton's Gioiello, Tickey

Two Shelton candidates have earned the backing of two U.S. Congress members.

U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-Milford, endorsed Planning and Zoning Commission Candidate Jimmy Ticket recently.

"In her endorsement, DeLauro cited his extensive experience volunteering in the community, as a successful small-business owner, and as the Vice Chair of Shelton's Board of Apportionment & Taxation dealing with the city's budget," Tickey said.

DeLauro said, "He combines the know-how politically with the policy and he knows how to integrate these. Let's make sure that this young man - this unbelievably smart, talented, compassionate and committed young man - has an opportunity to be able to take these qualities and apply them to public service."

U.S. Rep. Jim Himes endorsed Democrat David Gioiello Jr. for Mayor. Gioiello also heads the Shelton Democratic Town Committee.

"It is with great honor that I lend my support to my friend Dave Gioiello as he campaigns for the mayor of Shelton. I have deep admiration for his openness and his understanding of the challenges faced by business and to families in this challenging economy. His desire to serve the community where he built his small business will be an asset in leading Shelton," Himes said.

Himes' challenger is Shelton resident Dan Debicella. Republican State Rep. John Shaban, representing Easton, Weston and Redding, also wants to challenge Himes.
