Campaign Notebook: Shays Will Not Support McMahon

Daily news and updates from the campaign trail in Connecticut.

Senate

Chris Murphy’s campaign is spinning a gaffe from Susan Bysiewicz’ camp into a call for donations. The incorrect ad, which was based on the record of former New York congressman Scott Murphy and not the Connecticut congressman, is apparently still running.

“They refuse to take it off the air. Outrageous, right?,” wrote campaign manager Kenny Curran in an email to supporters. “Given our opponent's unfortunate refusal to take her ad off the air, we need to increase our televison [sic] buys this week.”

On the Republican side the Senate race, Chris Shays told the New Haven Register editorial board that he would not support Linda McMahon if she wins the primary. If there was any doubt of his true feelings, he sharply criticized her campaign, which refuses to meet with newspaper editorial boards.
“You have a candidate who is basically giving the finger to all the editorial boards,” Shays told the New Haven Register.

Third District

Rosa DeLauro (D) recently to learn about a “Double Dollars” federal program that lets people double the value of their federal assistance dollars when buying produce at the market.

Wayne Winsley (R) continues campaigning throughout the Third District. On Monday, he posted, “Today I will be criss-crossing the 3rd district, meeting voters and getting the word out,” on Facebook.

Fourth District

Jim Himes (D) may have been in office for a few years now, but he isn’t above some old-fashioned campaigning. Here’s what he said on Twitter.

Steve Obsitnik (R) shared photos of his campaign BBQ event from this past week.

Chris Shays is not only a RINO, but is not a team player. I'll back the winner of the primary. I believe Shays should do the same.

Why is it the panel for this event does not include a single advocate for gun-owners' rights? WithRead More all due respect to Chief McNamara, why does the panel no include a person who can speak to gun safety from a gun-owning civilian's perspective? ML, you claim that the assembled folks "do not offer judgements about gun ownership" but they are not including a single voice that can offer perspective on gun ownership. I have been to "education" sessions sponsored by Meg's March for Change and they are one-sided indoctrinations into gun control advocacy. >>>> I was in Hartford for the public hearings in January when both Meg and March co-founder Nancy gave their personal testimonies and they all but threatened the legislators on the panel with election day retribution for all those who did not tow the gun-control line of thinking (i.e. March and CAGV). To suggest that Meg "does not offer judgements" is fallacious and disingenuous.
