Civilians, Firefighter Injured in Shelton Fire [Update]

The fire is reportedly near the intersection of Wooster Street and North Oak Avenue.

Update

About 50 firefighters from three companies responded to extinguish the fire at the intersection of Wooster Street and North Oak Avenue, according to the Echo Hose website. There were two minor civilian injuries, burned hands and smoke inhilations, and one firefighter injury, laceration to the hand.

As fire crews arrived, neighbors standing outside the building reported a person on the second floor. Firefighters immediately went to the second floor and found a man attempting to extinguish the fire with pots of water. He was told to leave and a line was stretched from Tower 7 to begin extinguishing the fire. Engine 2 arrived shortly after and stretched a line to the rear of the house. The fire was mainly on the exterior of the structure, making its way into the attic. Tower 7′s line was stretched to the attic with a crew to extinguish the extension before it got into the attic. Ground ladders were thrown to the roof and around the structure for egress points if needed.

Firefighters from Echo Hose Hook and Ladder Company are currently on the scene of a reported structure fire near the intersection of Wooster Street and North Oak Avenue in Shelton.

According to information transmitted over the scanner at about 6:50 p.m., fire and smoke was showing from the second floor of the building when firefighters arrived.
