Shelton Cops: Woman Lied About Robbery To Get a Ride Home

According to Google Maps, she lived about 1.2 miles away, or about a 30 minute walk.

A Providence Avenue woman allegedly lied about being robbed in December "to get a ride home."

Tiffany Lopez, 20, is charged with falsely reporting an incident in the second degree and misuse of emergency 911 system.

Lopez reported that on Dec. 19, 2013, about 3:15 p.m., she was walking through the parking lot of the post office, at 83 Bridge St., when a black male approached her and attempted to grab her purse.

"Lopez told police that she observed what appeared to be a handle of a black pistol in the male’s jacket pocket," police said.

"Based on Lopez’s account, police sent out a description of the black male, the Hispanic male driver, and the getaway vehicle to area police departments. Shelton Police and detectives also began an extensive search for the suspects and the vehicle," police said.
