Obituary: Frederick O. Brainard, WWII Veteran

Frederick O. Brainard, age 85, of Wallingford entered into rest on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013 at his home with his loving family by his side.

He was the beloved husband of 65 years to Esther Smith Brainard. Mr. Brainard was born in Shelton on Aug. 6, 1927 son of the late Otis and Evelyn Schenk Brainard. He was a Monroe and Shelton resident for most of his life until moving to North Port, FL and then Wallingford.

Mr. Brainard served in the US Navy during WWII. He was the owner and operator of the Monroe Plumbing and Heating Company for many years until his retirement. Mr. Brainard was a member of the Monroe Fire Department, American Legion Sutter Terlizzi Post 16, VFW Post 1236 in Shelton and VFW in Florida, King Hiram Lodge # 12 AF & AM, AMVETS in Florida, Russian Lodge and Kazimir Pulaski Club.

He is the loving father of Richard D. Brainard and his spouse David M. Krane, William O. Brainard and his wife Eleanor, Virginia L. Elwood and her husband John and the late Gary A. Brainard; brother of, Lorraine Neumann, Eileen Sweet and the late Roy Brainard. Mr. Brainard is the loving grandfather of Kelly Ann Gerson, Kelly Helen Elwood, Chris Elwood, Eric Brainard and Rebecca Coppola, great grandfather of, Xavier, Elaina, Lucca and Willa. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd., Shelton. His funeral service will follow at 4:00 p.m. with the Pastor Tim Hare, officiating. His burial will be private in the spring.
