Clara Burns, 92, of Shelton, entered into rest on Monday, November 11, 2013 at Griffin Hospital in Derby. She was the devoted wife of 60 years to the late Richard A. Burns. Clara was born in Pawling, NY on July 27, 1921, daughter of the late Clarence and Mildred (Minor) Mabie, and lived most of her life in Shelton.
She was a longtime member of the Huntington Congregational Church, and was very active in the Women’s Fellowship Circle 3 at the church. Clara enjoyed baking for the Pumpkin and Holly Fairs, and she was skilled at crocheting and tatting. She also enjoyed reading and loved travelling to Maine with her family in the summers.
She is the beloved mother of Jill Chase and her husband Merle, cherished grandmother of Julie Chase and Eric Chase and his wife Shannon, and great grandmother of Samantha Chase and Chase Olmo. She also leaves her sister, Jean Reid.
Friends may greet the family at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton, on Friday from 3 to 5 pm. On Saturday, friends are invited to meet for her funeral directly at Huntington Congregational Church at 1 PM. Burial will follow at Lawn Cemetery.
