A St. Joseph's School student from Shelton is one of this year's royal court members.

Robert Roehrich, a Shelton resident from St. Joseph High School in Trumbull had the honor of being crowned Prince for this year's Barnum Festival, an annual celebration of P.T. Barnum, best known for founding the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.

Mayor Mark A. Lauretti honored Roerich Thursday night at the Board of Aldermen's meeting. He noted the teen's academic achievements, including acceptance into the National Honor Society and his 94 cumulative average for junior year. Roehrich is also a member of his school's student council and he takes part in peer tutoring, the Special Olympics and volunteering at Golden Hill United Methodist Church's soup kitchen.

The 64th annual Barnum Festival celebration stretches from May to July 4th. As part of his Royal Court duties, Roehrich will help lead many events such as tomorrow's Wing Ding Parade for Kids and Skyblast Party scheduled for later this month.
