Sassafras Update: A Couple More Months!

The rebuilding of Sassafras Diner in Shelton is well underway.

Update on Sassafras Diner! After being gutted by a late night fire last June, the rebuilding process is finally underway. Denise Poniros Dykes, who has worked at the diner for more than 10 years, gave this bit of info:

"Things are starting to move along. Unfortunately, I do not have an exact date for our grand re-opening, but I can say it will be at least another two months. It's hard to decide on a floor plan, especially since the restaurant has been there for 30 years and it's difficult to imagine it set up any other way. The good news is that we will definitely be back. I will surely let you know when I hear anything more."

The photo above is what Sassafras currently looks like. New windows and front door!

Thank you so much for this story, we are so happy to tell you that we plan on being opened for spring. We can't wait to see our customers, who are missed. It was 30 years this past summer and that was very hard for us, instead of celebrating we were all crying at our loss. Sass and it's customers are like family to us, watching babies grow to be our future customers with families of their own. I will keep in touch with everyone to let you know when we will open and hope to see you all there. Jeanie poniros, owner
