SWAT Team Raids Shelton Home in Heroin Sale Investigation

Shelton Police arrested a Perry Avenue resident this morning in connection to an investigation of heroin sales in the downtown area. Four children, one of which was home when a SWAT team entered, had been living there. No one was injured during the raid.

Shelton Police with the assistance of The Southwest Region 2 Special Response Team (a tactical unit comprised of Milford, Ansonia, West haven, and Orange Police Officers) along with the New Haven Police Armored Unit executed a search and seizure warrant on apartment 27B Perry Avenue, Shelton at approximately 8:45 a.m. Arrested at the scene was 29-year-old John Thompson, of the above address. Thompson was charged with:

• Possession of Heroin
• Possession of Heroin with intent to sell
• Possession of Heroin within 1,500 feet of a school
• Possession of Heroin within 1,500 feet of a school with intent to sell
• Four counts of Risk of Injury to a Minor. 

Thompson was held on $150,000 dollar bond and is scheduled to be arraigned in Derby Superior Court tomorrow.

The arrest stems from a month long investigation into heroin sales in the downtown area. Today’s search warrant was conducted after three of Thompson’s children had already gone to school. A fourth child, a two-year-old, was sleeping in a crib and removed from the scene by EMS without incident.  Police seized approximately $1,000.00 worth of heroin from the home, packaging materials, and an unspecified amount of cash.
