Firefighters Battling Major Blaze On Howe Avenue

Firefighters from several nearby departments assisted Shelton to put out the fire early Monday morning.


On a rainy and foggy night, firefighters from several towns battled a major blaze at 446 Howe Ave. in Shelton, a mixed-use building with businesses on the first floor and apartments on the upper floors.

The fire started during the early morning hours on Monday. There were reports of an evacuation and a collapse on one side. The fire appeared to have spread to a smaller building behind it.

Monroe and Stevenson firefighters are assisting Shelton, along with companies from Newtown, Orange, Seymour, Stratford, Ansonia and Derby.

Ambulances and a YankeeGas van were also on scene.
