Video: Police Dept. Presented With Law Enforcement Carbine

The American Military University presented the Shelton police with a Colt LE6920 Law Enforcement Carbine as part of a memorial to Sgt. Orville Smith.

Timothy Hardiman, Manager of Law Enforcement Programs at the American Military University, made a visit to the this morning to present officers with a Colt LE6920 Law Enforcement Carbine.

"This is a necessary tool in this day and age," Hardiman said.

The rifle is engraved with the message "In Memory of Sgt. Smith," who was killed last July after being hit by a drunk driver.

Police Chief Joel Hurliman said that "the plan is to put one in each patrol car." The department has five such vehicles and four carbines, "so there's one more coming."

Hardiman, Hurliman and Shelton Police Captain Michael Madden proudly posed for photos as they accepted the AMU's donation.

Before he was a Shelton police officer, Sgt. Smith served in the Marine Corps and fought in Vietnam.
