Severe Weather Expected Thursday

A hazardous weather outlook has been issued for both northern and southern Fairfield counties, while central Connecticut could feel the brunt of big storms.

The National Weather Service has forecasted severe thunderstorms which could produce damaging winds, hail and even tornadoes for Thursday in the state.

Weather Channel's Severe Weather Expert Dr. Greg Forbes says that it's possible that a derecho, a widespread damaging wind event, could be ongoing during the morning hours from portions of New York State to central and southern New England.

Thursday

A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Some storms could be severe, with large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 87. Light southwest wind increasing to 6 to 11 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

Thursday night

Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 11 p.m. Some storms could be severe, with large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rain. Cloudy, with a low around 74. Southwest wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
