Shelton Scores and Standings, Oct 31

Shelton's game against Mercy in the quarterfinals of the SCC girls soccer  playoffs was pushed back another day to Tuesday (6 p.m.) as the recovery from Saturday's freak snowstorm continues.

Two games were played Saturday, as top seed Sacred Heart Academy blanked No. 8 seed North Haven, 3-0, and No. 5 Cheshire edged No. 4 Guilford, 1-0.

Also postponed to Tuesday was the battle between No. 6 West Haven and No. 3 Amity.

If Shelton, the No. 2 seed and defending SCC champion, advances, it will face the West Haven-Amity winner in the semifinals, now set for Thursday. The semifinals will be played at the sites of the higher seeds.

The seventh-seeded Shelton boys soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision at No. 2 seed Fairfield Prep on Saturday in the SCC playoffs.

Two of the quarterfinals were completed Saturday as top seed Cheshire needed double overtime to get past Hand, 1-0.

The contest between No. 5 Career/Hillhouse and No. 4 Notre Dame-West Haven was suspended until Monday with 29:09 remaining in the second half with the score tied at one.

Also postponed until Monday was the quarterfinal between No. 6 Hamden and No. 3 Guilford.

Defending champion Shelton is the No. 3 seed for the SCC girls volleyball playoffs.

For the first time, the SCC girls volleyball playoffs includes all teams that have won eight or more regular-season matches. Ten teams have qualified for the 2011 playoffs. Cheshire is the top seed.

Shelton hosts No. 6 Sacred Heart Academy in the quarterfinals on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. The semifinals are on Thursday at the higher seeds and final is set for Saturday at North Haven at 6 p.m.
