The Shelton High School girls soccer team will be honored as the Shelton Sports Persons of the Year at the Fairfield County Sports Commission's seventh annual Sports Night awards dinner.

Last season, the Gaelettes won their first CIAC Class LL state championship and also captured the Southern Connecticut Conference title for the first time.

The dinner is set for Monday at the Hyatt Regency Greenwich at 6 p.m., and tickets are still available at $125 apiece.

WTNH-Channel 8 sports director Noah Finz, a Greenwich resident, is the emcee for the evening. The newest members of the Fairfield County Sports Hall of Fame and 15 Sports Persons of the Year from county communities will be recognized.

Sports personalities slated to attend are former Yankees pitcher Tommy John, ex-NY Giants football player Bob Hyland, Lowes Moore, who played with the New Jersey Nets, former world boxing champion Travis Simms and Wes Matthews, a two-time NBA champion with the LA Lakers.
