Shelton Scores and Standings, Nov 1

After having its game postponed over the weekend due to the snowstorm, the Shelton girls soccer team hosts No. 7 seed Mercy on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the quarterfinals of the Southern Connecticut Conference playoffs.

The other postponed quarterfinal also is set for Tuesday as No. 3 seed Amity hosts No. 6 seed West Haven.

Two quarterfinals were played on Saturday as top seed Sacred Heart Academy blanked No. 8 seed North Haven, 3-0, and No. 5 Cheshire edged No. 4 Guilford, 1-0.

If Shelton, the No. 2 seed and defending SCC champion, advances, it will face the West Haven-Amity winner in the semifinals, now set for Thursday. The semifinals will be played at the sites of the higher seeds.

Defending champion Shelton is the No. 3 seed for the SCC girls volleyball playoffs.

For the first time, the SCC girls volleyball playoffs includes all teams that have won eight or more regular-season matches. Ten teams have qualified for the 2011 playoffs. Cheshire is the top seed.

Shelton hosts No. 6 Sacred Heart Academy in the quarterfinals on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. The semifinals are on Thursday at the higher seeds and final is set for Saturday at North Haven at 6 p.m.
