The will host its seventh cheerleading competition on Saturday at East Haven High School.
Warm-ups start at 9 a.m., and the competition will follow at 10:45 a.m. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 or students and senior citizens. Children under six will be admitted free.

Sixteen SCC schools are scheduled to participate in the competition in three divisions: exhibition, co-ed and all-girl. Schools scheduled to compete include: Branford (all-girl and exhibition), Career (exhibition), Cheshire (all-girl), Daniel Hand (all-girl), East Haven (all-girl), Foran (all-girl), Hamden (all-girl), Hillhouse (all-girl), Lyman Hall (all-girl), Mercy (all-girl), North Haven (all-girl), Sacred Heart Academy (all-girl), Sheehan (all-girl), Shelton (co-ed), West Haven (all-girl) and Wilbur Cross (all-girl).
“The cheerleading competition has become an exciting event for the Southern Connecticut Conference,” explained Commissioner Al Carbone. “More importantly, we have been able to modify and improve the competition to make it a positive experience for all of our student athletes.”

Shelton, North Haven, Hamden and Career were winners at last year’s SCC cheerleading competition.

Kyle Packnick and David Moreland each scored 14 points Monday, lifting the Shelton boys basketball team to a 58-50 victory over East Haven.
Christian Pierre added eight points for the Gaels, who converted 19-of-27 free throws, including 13-of-15 down the stretch to secure the win.
Shelton only led 33-32 entering the final quarter, but outscored the Yellow Jackets 25-18 over the final eight minutes to improve to 5-9.
Nick Lamberti had 22 points to lead East Haven, which dropped to 4-10. The Yellow Jackets played without leading scorer Mike Vessicchio, who reinjured his separated right shoulder last Tuesday against Branford.
Shelton snapped a four-game losing streak and surpassed last season's win total (4-16).

The Staples-Weston-Shelton boys hockey team suffered a 7-1 loss Monday to Brookfield-Bethel Danbury at the Milford Ice Pavilion.
Sean Stewart scored the only goal in the third period for the Wreckers, who dropped to 6-5 following their fourth straight loss. They have surrendered 22 goals during the slide.
Trevor Kurjiaka scored three goals and Nick Melvin and Stephan Hallock, Joe Britton Jon Leonard each added one for B-B-D, which improved to 9-5.
Dylan Batterson (19) and Jeff Burns (13) combined to make 32 saves for S-W-S.
