Spring Semester Academic Achievements & Volunteer Awards

A list of the many academic and work-related achievements of Shelton natives. The following information has been gathered from media press releases.

The following hometown residents were awarded degrees during Salve Regina University's 61st commencement on Sunday, May 15:

  • Mary Ann Brinsco, Bachelor of Arts in International Studies. 
  • Stephanie Ann Turaj, Bachelor of Arts magna cum laude in English Communications. Turaj received the Communication Studies Award and is a member of Sigma Tau Delta international English honor society.
  • Domenique Marie Santoro, Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.

From Bryant University, Commencement ceremony on May 21:

  • Sarah Dolny, Bachelor of Arts in Communicaton. Dolney also received the Roger W. Babson Award presented to a bachelor's degree candidate who has become distinguished within the university community because of character, orderly mind, sound judgment, and systematic business habits.

From Pace University:

  • Lauren Ostrofsky's documentary "Linda Thornton: Seeking Sustainability, One Shrimp at a Time" waas released in May. She and other Pace University students recently traveled to Belize as part of their award-winning course, "Producing the Documentary" to get footage for the documentary. The 17-minute film was released on several web sites. Ostrofsky, majoring in Communications, helped write, direct, film, edit and produce this work that follows the life of Linda Thornton from her early experiments with urban indoor shrimp farming in Chicago to hard-won success in Belize, a country aiming to build its economy without harming its extraordinary natural assets - particularly its coastal mangrove forests and coral reefs.
