Shelton Schools Show Mixed CMT Scores

Schools Supt. Freeman Burr called the results "general good news."

Shelton's elementary and middle school students improved in math proficiency but had mixed in returns in reading and writing, according to the results of the Connecticut Mastery Test.

"Given the trend statewide, we're extremely pleased," said Schools Supt. Freeman Burr. A lesser percentage of state students on average achieved proficiency or better.

"2013 CAPT results show increases and CMT results show decreases," according to a state summary.

The test examines third- through eighth-graders in math, reading and writing, and in science for fifth- and eighth-graders. All but the fourth grade showed an increase in math proficiency, and grades 3 and 8 showed increases in reading proficiency.

Writing results were mixed while fifth-graders fell slightly in science and more eighth-graders achieved proficiency in science.

All the increases and decreases in percentage of students reaching proficiency or above were slight.
