Street Committee Discusses Projected Road Repair

The street committee addresses road repair, drainage issues and sidewalks in a short meeting on May 3rd.

The city’s plan for road repair and reconstruction was the topic of the hour at this month’s meeting of the street committee.

According to alderman Eric McPherson, the list of streets receiving definite repair will be compiled within the next week or two, with heavily traveled streets and those causing safety issues being the first to be repaired.

“You’ve got to get the worst of the worst and do it the right way,” said McPherson, who requested that Mary Street and Jane Street be added to the list as they are “very bad.”

Alderman Lynn Farrell remarked that she has received numerous complaints about Buddington Road, but said it would be taken care of when the asphalt factory reopens.

“The mayor talked to me about it personally and said it would be taken care of,” said Farrell.

The street committee also discussed a sidewalk reimbursement request, drainage issues along Beardsley, Dimon and Margaret Drives and the problems of washed-out curbs along the sides of several roads.

“We know we’ve got a lot of work to do and we’ll get it done, as we always do,” said McPherson.
