Number of Homeless Families in CT on the Rise

Income disparity is also on the rise, according to a report by the Partnership for Strong Communities.

A report released by the Partnership for Strong Communities this week shows that the number of homeless families in Connecticut increased by 15 percent between 2010 and 2011, according to the Connecticut Mirror.

The report, which contains data compiled by numerous agencies, includes results from a "Point in Time Count," where the Connecticut Coalition to End Homelessness measured homelessness in the state during one night in January 2011. The results showed a total of 4,451 homeless people in one night, an 8 percent increase since 2009. in Stamford was in January.

Income disparity is also on the rise, according to the report. The lowest household income for 20 percent of Connecticut residents in 2010 fell to $13,696 from $14,525 in 2009.
