Himes Calls for Weiner's Resignation

Congressman Jim Himes announced Monday that he will donate campaign contributions received by Weiner to the Yerwood Center.

Congressman Jim Himes (CT-4) called for the resignation of Congressman Anthony Weiner (NY-9) Monday following a media-exposed sexting scandal.

Himes, a resident of Cos Cob, said in a statement that Weiner’s actions are distracting the Congress from critical work and that he would donate campaign contributions received by Weiner to the Stamford-based , which provides social and educational activities for children. The donations, which were given in each of the 2008 and 2010 election cycles, total up to $2,000.

“While millions of Americans go without work, families throughout the country fear foreclosures, and our nation faces a fiscal crisis, we cannot afford the continued distraction of this sorry situation,” Himes said in the statement. “I hope Mr. Weiner will choose to step down so Congress can put this matter to rest and so that he can focus on his personal situation.”
