Constitution Week Starts Today in Trumbull

Constitution Week in Trumbull started Sept. 17, according to the Sarah Riggs Humphreys-Mary Silliman Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Shelton.

Trumbull resident and Sarah Riggs Humphreys-Mary Silliman Chapter (SRH-MS) Regent Christy Hendrie "thanked the First Selectman and noted that many Trumbull residents participated in the American Revolution and helped make the Constitution a reality," according to a press release.

First Selectman Tim Herbst asked residents to "reaffirm the ideals of the Framers of the constitution had in 1787 by vigilantly protecting the freedoms guaranteed to us through this guardian of our liberties, remembering that lost rights may never be regained," the release stated.

Hendrie also encouraged Americans to "celebrate the spirit of the men and women who achieved our nation's independence."

The DAR "perpetuates the memory and spirit of the men and women who won American independence."

It also helps maintain historic state properties.  Any woman 18 or older who can prove an ancestor served in the American Revolution is a prospective member.  For more information on the DAR go online at http://www.sarahriggshumphreysDAR.org.
