Campaign Notebook: Murphy's Attendance Record Criticized

News and updates from the campaign trail in Connecticut.

Senate

Linda McMahon’s campaign scrutinized U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy’s record again and claims that the congressman missed three-fourths of all committee hearings. Hearst Newspapers performed their own audit and came up with similar results.

“How can Congressman Murphy look the people of Connecticut in the eye and claim he deserves a promotion when he never even showed up for the taxpayer-funded job he already has?” said Corry Bliss, McMahon’s campaign manager.

Murphy’s campaign says McMahon is just trying to deflect the conversation about Social Security.

"Linda McMahon is desperately trying to change the subject as pressure mounts on her campaign following recent revelations that she unveiled her proposal to end Social Security with a `sunset provision' at a tea party meeting in April," Murphy spokesman Eli Zupnick said in a statement, reports the Connecticut Post.

Rosa DeLauro (D): The Hill reports that the Democrats’ strategy to turn Medicare into a key voter issue is paying off. DeLauro was cited in the article for saying that vice presidential hopeful Paul Ryan’s Medicare plan would send the country “back before 1965” when the entitlement program was first created.

Wayne Winsley (R) spent Wednesday on the campaign trail. According to Facebook, his schedule include stops at the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection breakfast, a business luncheon in New Haven, a press conference and finally, a candidates’ forum in Middletown.

Jim Himes (D): Himes’ campaign is sharing older news articles about Himes. One of them, published by Wilton Patch, looks at Himes’ decision in 2010 to “break party lines and step out against deficit spending.”

Steve Obsitnik (R) recently stopped by Francesa’s in Norwalk to tour the eatery while on the campaign trail. “Sure looks like [the owner] built that to me!” said one commenter.
