15 State Employees Suspected of Post-Irene Fraud

Gov. Malloy categorized the suspected employees as "high-wage earners," according to the Connecticut Post.

The Malloy administration submitted to the Department of Social Services and the Office of Labor Relations the names of 15 state employees that are suspected of to replace spoiled food after Tropical Storm Irene when they weren't qualified, according to the CT Mirror.

“Based on my administration’s investigation, it appears clear that the abuses of public trust involved go beyond simply lying about income," Gov. Malloy said in a statement released by his office. "In some instances, people lied about assets under their control or even listed a deceased relative as living in the household.   Given the information known to us, these were not oversights or honest mistakes. This was outright fraud, and it will not stand."

According the CT Mirror, as soon as the allegations have been confirmed, the state will begin disciplinary actions against the 15 employees ahead of any criminal investigations.
