Updated, 3:55 p.m.

Police say the weapons investigation at Lincoln Technical School started about 10 a.m. Tuesday when a 38-year-old man reported his gun was stolen from his car in a smash-and-grab.

He is a student there and the gun is a semiautomatic, police said.

"Upon arrival police spoke with the 38-year-old male complainant who stated he parked his vehicle at Lincoln Technical Institute this morning and that he left a firearm in the vehicle. The complainant reported the firearm was hidden inside the vehicle," said Police Lt. Robert Kozlowsky.

When the man returned to his car, a window was smashed and the gun stolen.

"Police began searching the premise and the surrounding area, but were unable to locate the firearm. Students were then dismissed by school administrators," Kozlowsky said.

The incident is still under investigation and more details will be released when available, police said.
