Video: Dizziness, Feeling Sick, Unknown Odor

Shelton Fire Dept. and EMS were called to Bed, Bath & Beyond after customers complained of nausea.

As if another round of wintry slush weren't enough to make you feel sick, add in a shopping trip headache to make matters worse. That's what happened to customers at Tuesday afternoon, who waited outside in the rain for a good 45 minutes after the store was evacuated due to an unknown odor.

At 1:03 p.m., Shelton EMS reported that four people were suffering from "dizziness and feeling sick" in the store on Bridgeport Ave., the symptoms brought on by an "unknown odor" in the building. All customers and staff were advised to immediately evacuate as was dispatched and ambulance trucks made their way to the scene.

Fortunately, after an inspection of the premises that lasted less than an hour, the fire department reported that there was no emergency, though they initially suspected a gas leak. Captain of Huntington Co. 3 Joe Constantine, one of the officials leading the investigation, said that the four people with nausea "refused medical attention" and left the scene.

Courtney Brisson was in the store with her friend during the incident. The two stood close by the entrance along with about ten others as to stay out of the rain while crews were working.

"I really don't know what happened," Brisson said. "We were inside and then they just told us to come out."
