Shelton Woman Faces Manslaughter Charge For Racing Accident

Amanda Shaw, 22, of Hill Street, also faces charges of evading responsibility, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and three counts of second-degree assault with a motor vehicle in connection with the accident that killed Darnell Cooks.

Police have reportedly charged a Shelton woman with second degree manslaughter in connection with a June 2011 car crash that killed a local man.

According to a report in the CT Post, Amanda Shaw, 22, of Hill Street, also faces charges of evading responsibility, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and three counts of second-degree assault with a motor vehicle in connection with the accident that killed her passenger, Darnell Cooks.

According to the report an officer on patrol on June 19, 2011, spotted Shaw's vehicle racing with others on Boston Avenue. When the officer tried to stop the cars by blocking them with his cruiser they reportedly went around it and continued speeding down the road.

After going around the officer's squad car Shaw's vehicle reportedly went through a stop sign and struck another vehicle crossing Noble Avenue, killing Cooks, according to the report.

Shaw was reportedly served with the warrant on Friday while appearing in court on an unrelated marijuana possession charge.
