Fire Causes More than $50K in Damages to Transfer Station [Updated]

The fire started at 5 p.m. at United Recycling. The cause is under investigation.

Update, 11:30 p.m.

The fire damaged construction debris, the building and some equipment, said Fire Marshal Jim Tortora.

A cause has not yet been identified, but, "We don't think it was intentionally started," Tortora said.

A fire has been reported in a warehouse at 46 Oliver Terrace. Firefighters are at the scene and the extingiushing efforts continue, said Shelton Fire Marshal Jim Tortora.

Tortora said he believes the site is a transfer station, later adding it is the construction demolition building.

The site is located near Route 8 off Platt Road, which is off Bridgeport Avenue.
