Shelton Police Seize Man's Banned Assault Rifle

The following arrest information is provided by the Shelton Police Dept. It does not indicate convictions.

On Thursday, Jan. 24, Shelton police arrested 58-year-old Michael Soda of 39 Shelton Rd. on the charges of:

  • Disorderly conduct (2 counts)
  • Illegal possession of an assault weapon

The arrest was based on an investigation into a domestic dispute that occurred on Jan 11. Due to threats made at the house, police entered the house that night and seized all of Soda’s weapons.

After investigating ongoing domestic issues at the house and inspecting the weapons seized, police determined that one of the rifles was a banned assault rifle.

The rifle was a Norinco brand AK-47 in 7.62 x 39 mm assault rifle made in China which had several features added to make it a banned weapon. Soda surrendered at Police HQ yesterday after learning the warrant was issued. Soda posted a court set $5,000 bond. Soda will be arraigned in Derby Superior Court  today.

"In CT that firearm was illegal even if it was considered "Pre-Ban". Sorry that's just irresponsible gun ownership. And ignorance of the law...which is no defense." - Matt Civale

The fact of the matter is guns don't kill people.......people kill people. And what's goin on is the government is stressing the citizens out because that can't live in the quality that every living soul has the right to eat, live and be happy. People are goin to jail for stealing food to feed thier family's. and people are tired of the government treating the citizens like slaves to up hold the living quality of the rich while they starve and can't make ends meet but the nerve of the rich blaming the middle class dhen we say we're paying enough in taxes and those who can afford to pay more don't want too pay thier share. So get used to seeing this because its only the beginning and will get worse.... Until the rich puts them selves in the shoes of Every American and pays thier share.and stop blamimg the working man for our problems with this country....THE RICH ARE THE ONES MAKING THE WORLD LIKE THIS BUT INSTEAD OF THEM OF FIXING THE PROBLEMS THEY HAVE CREATED THEY RATHER BLAME THE WORKING CLASS THE WORKING CLASS HAVE WORKED HARD ENOUGH AND WERE TIRED OF THE RICH ASSHOLE SPENDING OUR TAX MONEY LIKE ITS THIER OWN PIGGY BANK. It's te for the working class to go on strike intill the rich scum fix our money problems.....

I am truly sorry to see this. I know Michael Soda, and I know him to be an upstanding citizen. He is someone who will help a person when they are down. He is an honorable man, and I am proud to call him my friend.

Why is it the panel for this event does not include a single advocate for gun-owners' rights? WithRead More all due respect to Chief McNamara, why does the panel no include a person who can speak to gun safety from a gun-owning civilian's perspective? ML, you claim that the assembled folks "do not offer judgements about gun ownership" but they are not including a single voice that can offer perspective on gun ownership. I have been to "education" sessions sponsored by Meg's March for Change and they are one-sided indoctrinations into gun control advocacy. >>>> I was in Hartford for the public hearings in January when both Meg and March co-founder Nancy gave their personal testimonies and they all but threatened the legislators on the panel with election day retribution for all those who did not tow the gun-control line of thinking (i.e. March and CAGV). To suggest that Meg "does not offer judgements" is fallacious and disingenuous.
