Shelton Police Make Arrest in Car Wash Stabbing [Update]

The following information comes from a press release by Lt. Robert Kozlowsky of the Shelton Police Dept. It does not indicate convictions.

Update 2:04 p.m.

Orlando Cruz was charged with:

  • Second degree assault
  • Reckless endangerment in the first degree
  • Interfering with an officer
  • Second degree breach of peace

Cruz is being held on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear at State Superior Court in Derby on July 20.

Original Story

On Tuesday, July 19 at approximately 8:15 a.m., and EMS responded to 376 Bridgeport Ave., , for a report of a stabbing. The victim, a 38-year-old male employee, was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The victim was alert while being treated by EMS.

An investigation by police revealed that a female employee at Splash Car Wash is in a relationship with the victim. The female’s ex-boyfriend, identified as 23-year-old Orlando Cruz of Washington Ave. in Bridgeport, showed up at the car wash to talk with her. The victim then intervened and was stabbed by Cruz with a sharp object. Cruz then fled the scene on foot.

Shelton Police with the assistance of the State Police and K9 Officers from various departments began to search the area for Cruz. At approximately 10:30 a.m., employees from Satin America and United Recycling, area businesses on Oliver Terrace, saw a person matching the description of the Cruz and notified police. Police were able to confirm the identity of the person and subsequently placed Cruz under arrest.

Police are currently looking for the object used in the stabbing.
