Shelton Man Arrested in Westport Bank Robbery

The following arrest information is provided by the Westport Police Dept. It does not indicate convictions.

This morning the Westport Police Department Detective Bureau with the assistance of the Shelton Police Department arrested James L. Watson (age 44) at his home in Shelton for the robbery of Citi Bank in Westport on Dec. 21, 2012.

On Dec. 21 at approximately 1 p.m. a person entered Citi Bank at 399 Post Road West in Westport, showed a knife to the teller and passed a note demanding money from the bank. 

Evidence from the robbery, including the trench coat, the baseball hat and the weapon was recovered on North Sylvan Road in Westport shortly after the crime.

Information was developed that Watson had been in the Hudson Valley Bank at 420 Post Road West shortly before the robbery at Citi Bank. Detectives continued to develop information through the holiday which led to Watson’s arrest.

Watson was charged with robbery first degree and larceny fifth degree.

Watson was unable to post $50,000 bond and is being held at the Westport Police Department. He will be arraigned at Norwalk Superior Court Friday, Dec. 28.
