Roxas I. Stanley, 27, of New Haven, is charged with third-degree assault, disorderly conduct and risk of injury to a minor.
Police said he punched her while she was driving with children in a car during an argument.
After they returned home, he allegedly later punched her again. She left after Stanley fell asleep and reported the incident to police.
Stanley was also charged with second-degree failure to appear in court, and his bonds totalled $20,000 for appearances in Derby Superior Court.
