Shelton Cops: Man Tried to Ram Cruiser

An Ansonia man who allegedly accelerated at police Nov. 23 faces numerous charges from an April 8 fight on Oak Street in Shelton.

Jalaal Tyhiim Steadman, 27, of Bassett Street, is charged with third-degree assault, second-degree strangulation, first-degree reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct, in a warrant.

Shelton Police said that on April 8 on Oak Avenue, Steadman was arguing with another man whom he put into a chokehold and punched.

He was arrested Nov. 23 after he allegedly drove at a police cruiser and stopped short of hitting it, police said. They later searched the car and reportedly found scales and drugs inside.

Consequently, Steadman was also charged with engaging police in pursuit, illegal possession, interfering with an officer, possession with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a school and use of drug paraphernalia.

Steadman's bond's totaled $30,000 and he is scheduled to appear in Derby Superior Court.
