Shelton Cops: Man Abandoned Dog

Police later shot the dog to death after it bit someone and behaved aggressively.

A Fairfield man is accused of abandoning a pit bull dog in Shelton.

Jason W. Bernstein, 25, of Church Hill Street, is charged with allowing a dog to roam, cruelty to animals, second-degree making a false statement, interfering with an officer and second-degree reckless endangerment.

Police said Bernstein promised the dog's owner he had found a home for the dog but later abandoned it earlier this year.

The animal then bit someone and ran away, but was later spotted and shot by police because it acted aggressively, police said.

Bernstein allegedly lied to police. He was arrested by warrant and his bond was set at $5,000 for an appearance in Derby Superior Court.
