On September 9, , assisted by Ansonia Police Detectives, arrested 27-year-old Slawomir Kret of 13 Nichols Street, Ansonia on the charges of:
- Criminal attempt robbery (1st degree),
- Conspiracy to commit robbery (1st degree) and
- Interfering with a police officer.
Kret was arrested after police had learned he had planned to rob a downtown pizza shop at closing time. Police learned of Kret’s plan and surveilled the area of the pizza shop. Detectives observed Kret arrive with another man and park behind the pizza shop waiting for the shop to close. Detectives and canine officer Nugent along with his dog Jager approached the vehicle and ordered the occupants out. Kret did not comply with police orders and retreated inside the van. Jager was deployed and subdued Kret inside the van. Kret was taken into custody and arrested. Police located masks, gloves, a hat and a tool handle weapon from inside the vehicle. The other occupant was not arrested.
Kret was treated and released for his bite wounds at the hospital. Kret was was held on a $75,000 bond. Kret will be arraigned in Derby Superior Court today. The investigation is continuing.
