A 31-year-old man who grew up in Shelton was fatally shot in Northeast Baltimore on Saturday afternoon, police told The Baltimore Sun.

Daniel Waldhaus was found inside a car with a gunshot wound to the back of the head near Morgan State University, The New Haven Register reports. Officers responded to a report of shooting at around 1:45 p.m. Waldhaus was pronounced dead at the scene.

Waldhaus’ childhood friend from Shelton Sean McCaffrey told The Baltimore Sun he was confused by his friend’s death. McCaffrey told the paper he didn’t know why Waldhaus would be in Baltimore, or who would want to kill him.

He was "one of the most loyal, caring, big-hearted guys in the world," McCaffrey told The Baltimore Sun.

Police continue to investigate the shooting.

A GoFundMe appeal has been set up to help Waldaus' family pay for ensuing costs.

I remember he was a very nice guy. People who shot him need to stay the hell off the streets. Each and everyday more and more young people get killed! "Hood rats" "wanna be thugs" need to get a job and do something in their life. This is how the society works, even though the police will watch whoever did this, they will get a slap on the wrist, and let out free. That's how stupid our government is.
