Police Make Arrest in Leavenworth/Walnut Tree Hill Road Accident

The following information comes from Lt. Robert Kozlowsky of the Shelton Police Department.

Nearly a year after a fatal accident at the intersection of Leavenworth and Walnut Tree Hill roads, a Shelton resident has turned himself in to the police based on an active arrest warrant. Duane Roe, 41, of North St, was charged with negligent homicide with a motor vehicle and failure to yield while turning left. He was released after posting a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear at Superior Court in Derby on March 21.

At approximately 10:15 p.m. on March 18, 2010, received numerous 9-1-1 calls of a serious motor vehicle accident involving a motorcycle and pickup truck at said intersection. Police, EMS and crews were dispatched
immediately to the scene. The accident occurred near the Shelton/Monroe border, and Monroe officers also responded to assist.

Upon arrival, the first responding units located 43-year-old Bruce Tischer of West Haven, the operator of the motorcycle. Tischer was transported by EMS to Bridgeport Hospital with life threatening injuries and later pronounced dead.

The operator of the pickup truck was identified as Roe. He did not complain of any injuries.

The Shelton Police Traffic Division Reconstruction Team was called to investigate, and they were assisted by The Trumbull Police Traffic Division Reconstruction Team. The road was closed for several hours during the investigation. Preliminary findings showed that the motorcycle operated by Tischer was traveling east on Leavenworth Road. The pickup truck operated by Roe had been traveling west on Leavenworth Road, and was turning left onto Walnut Tree Hill Road when the crash occurred.
