A Norwalk man who showed up at the Norwalk Hospital emergency department late Wednesday evening with a broken collar bone told police that . At first, the victim refused to tell police what happened.

Then the victim told police that he was standing outside at 61 Ohio Ave., smoking a cigarette when a man came up to him and hit him with a baseball bat, then walked away. The victim could provide no description of the perpetrator.

Norwalk police said that when they confronted a 28-year-old Bethany man with a bloody cut above his nose, he said he might have fallen down. Police said the man was swaying, seemed very confused, and they could smell alcohol on him.

When asked for identification, , which was valid. When asked if he had a pistol with him, according to police, he said he did and took a loaded 9 mm Ruger out of his right pocket and handed it to a police officer. Police charged the man with carrying a firearm while under the influence of alcohol.
