UPDATED: Firefighters Make Short Work of Basement Blaze on Maple Ave

First responders said they saw smoke pouring from the front door.

Update: 5:25 p.m.
Firefighters on scene at 54 Maple Ave. have reported the fire knocked down and under control, with the residual smoke and flames confined to the basement.

Crews will be on scene for awhile longer, according to reports over the scanner, as emergency crews root out and extinguish any remaining hotspots.

Firefighters responded to 54 Maple Ave. shortly after 5 p.m. Friday for reports of fire in the walls of the home.

Units arriving on scene reported smoke coming from the front door and a working fire in the basement of the home.

Firefighters from the surrounding area are at the scene with the hoses connected to the hydrants, ready to knock down the blaze. Check back with Shelton Patch for more information as it becomes available.
