Fatal Shelton Fire Was Accidental

The man who died from injuries from a Jan. 22 fire at 593 Howe Ave. has been identified as Michael Boroski, 52.

Boroski was pulled from the ground floor apartment. The fire was likely caused by "careless use of smoking materials," said Fire Marshal Jim Tortora. It started in the living room, he added.

Firefighter Chris Jones spotted the fire as he was exiting the Boys & Girls Club in Downtown Shelton. He banged on the ground floor apartment door but got no answer so he tried the next apartment and escorted out a family of four.

Firefighters later found Boroski unconscious in the ground floor apartment.

On Saturday, Gov. Dannel Malloy and Congressmen Jim Himes and Rosa DeLauro honored Jones, who credited all the firefighters who responded.

"I was in the right place at the right time," Jones said. "They're the ones that deserve the accolades."

Well Jim where would you like me to start? Lets see my 8 years as a volunteer, or the time I have on the job as a professional FF, or the 10 years I spent in the streets of New Haven in the middle of the night as a EMT/Paramedic while you slept in your warm cozy bed knowing your family was safe I signed up a long time ago my friend. They wanted to honor me a couple of time and I respectfully declined "IT'S MY JOB" I don't need honors for going to work everyday. So if you want to talk smack talk to me when a 7 year old dies in your arms from a gunshot wound to the head cause he got caught in the crossfire of gang violence cause he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.......SHMUCK

Im pretty sure Jim has been in the service way longer then you Shaun - AKA cry baby. Get over yourself nobody wants to hear your sob story. People in the valley appreciate their volunteers so if you dont i suggest you get lost

Reading the above article it leads me to believe Mr Jones was off duty, he could have just called 911 & waited at a safe distance for the on the clock firefighters to arrive or just leave on his merry way & go on about his day. He made a life saving decision that day ... off the clock.
