False Amber Alert, Man Makes Pass at Four-Year-Old & More

A state police broadcast and an were issued in order to rescue a small...box.

Police across CT reported that a child had been thrown into the back of a 2003 Honda Civic at Stamford's Town Center at by Hispanic male at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. These reports caused a frantic search for the child by law enforcement agencies around the state, until the amber alert was called off around 7:15 p.m.

Two hours later, having tracked down both the "missing" child and the driver of the Honda Civic, Stamford police stated that it was a box that was thrown into the trunk, and not a child.

The business owner of Hometown Entertainment in Wilton called police to report to his business’ credit card. Apparently, the charges mostly came from California, with some of the charges including money spent on limo rides and flowers.

A Bridgeport man was of a violin worth more than $2,000 from a school in Fairfield. He was discovered in a science room in the act of stealing a calculator.

Westport police arrested a 54-year-old town man for allegedly and throwing a rock at the technician.

According to police, the Cablevision worker was unable to contact the homeowner, whose property included a utility pole that the technician needed to climb in order to install cable TV on a nearby home. 

The man reportedly a short time later and said that he was just trying to get the installers attention to move his truck because he thought he couldn’t get out of his driveway.

A man described as about 40-years-old with black, balding hair made a pass at an aunt’s four-year-old niece at Wilton Stop & Shop. Allegedly, the man that the niece “would look hot when she’s 21” and that he would “take her now” if the aunt would let him. The woman called the police, but the suspect left the scene—and lack of cameras in Stop & Shop left no video evidence.

It was a wake-up call a Greenwich resident could do without. Police said an Orchard Place homeowner was awakened and found a masked burglar in the kitchen. Despite being naked, who was clinging onto various items taken from the home but gave up the chase when it appeared the thief had a weapon during the Aug. 9 incident. A short time later, a posse of police caught up with the suspect - nearly a mile away.

On Monday, a man  was already naked when he entered his own apartment from outside, according to Norwalk police. He trashed his own family's apartment, took a steak knife and started stabbing himself with it, then went outside, crossed the street (still naked) and slammed his body into the glass door of a bar, according to police reports. Police officers at the scene had to taser him to get him under control, they said.

On Wednesday morning, Norwalk police were called to a liquor store parking lot, where another man was , banging on parked cars. The first officer to arrive saw the man throw a hubcap across the parking lot. The man was arrested and in his car police said they found 8 1/2 ounces of marijuana, 60 oxycodone pills (an opiod pain reliever available only by prescription) and other, unidentified pills.

On Wednesday, the driver of a car stolen in Bridgeport  of a traffic accident in Norwalk in the morning, and in the early evening, after police set up a traffic stop in the area, the same car sped away from officers, then flipped over at the busy intersection of South Main and Monroe streets, in front of Norwalk Police headquarters, drawing a large crowd and damaging a storefront. As a result of that accident, two other cars at the intersection came into contact with each other. The driver of the flipped car was charged with illegal use of the motor vehicle, and another man in the car was charged with drug possession after he was treated and released from Norwalk Hospital.

A rash of motor vehicle burglaries and stolen parts , as everything from high-end rims to ipods to nearly $1,000 in cash were reported missing. In one case, instead of stealing anything, a burglar decided to leave an unwelcome surprise on the front seat of an SUV. Darien police said that nearly every affected vehicle had been left unlocked, prompting a round of warnings to, "Lock your car. Every time. Everywhere." Meanwhile, residents  when valuables are stolen from unsecured vehicles — and whether a fine should be imposed for a police response.
