Two Arrested During DUI Checkpoint [Update]

The following information comes from a press release by Lt. Robert Kozlowsky of the Shelton Police Dept. It does not indicate convictions.

Update, September 5:

On Friday, September 2, the conducted a DUI checkpoint. Police made two arrests for DUI during the checkpoint.

21-year-old Robert Conte of Derby was charged with DUI. 25-year-old Daniel Belber of Derby was charged with DUI, operating an unregistered vehicle, and driving the wrong way on a one way street. Belber was additionally arrested on a warrant for failure to respond to an infraction. Both were released on bond and are due to appear at state superior court in Derby on September 16.

Police also issued a ticket to 19-year-old Joshua Hovan of Shelton for possession of alcohol by a minor and driving the wrong way on a one way street and 34-year-old Steven Ayers of Shelton for driving the wrong way on a one way street.

The will conduct a DUI enforcement checkpoint on Friday, September 2, 2011 from 6:30 p.m. until 2:30 a.m. The checkpoint will take place on Bridgeport Avenue, River Road, and in the downtown area. The checkpoint location is subject to change.

The checkpoint will be headed by the Shelton Police Traffic Division with assistance from the patrol division. The checkpoint is being partially funded by a grant from the State of Connecticut Department of Transportation. The goal of the checkpoint is to make the roads in Shelton a safer place to drive. Drivers are reminded that drinking and driving do not mix.
