Burglary Suspect Threw Needle as He Ran from Shelton Police

Stefano Cervera Jr. allegedly broke into city vehicles Friday near the Shelton Community Center

A Shelton man was arrested Friday as he ran from the Shelton Community Center toward the woods, throwing a hypodermic needle as he was chased.

Officer Chris Nugent was patrolling Friday when he noticed the rear window of a city-owned work vehicle was broken, and bags of tools were stacked in a pile next to the vehicles near the Community Center, according to a Shelton Police Department news release.

Officer Myles Dupont arrived and saw Stefano Cervera Jr., 28, running toward the woods. Dupont chased and caught Cervera.

Cervera was charged with two counts of third-degree burglary, third-degree larceny, third-degree criminal mischief, interfering with an officer and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the release.

Cervera was also charged with third-degree burglary, theft of a firearm and criminal possession of a firearm for a previous case reported Thursday, the release reported. Cervera is held on a $125,000 bond and is scheduled to appear Monday at Derby Court.
