Arson Suspected in Canal Street Fire

Investigators have reasonable cause to believe Wednesday's structure fire at 235 Canal St. was not an accident.

Investigators have reasonable cause to believe Wednesday's structure fire at 235 Canal St. was not an accident, the Shelton Herald reports.

Police Lt. Robert Kozlowsky said an electrical problem couldn't have started the blaze because there is no power in the abandoned building.

“We have two detectives who are certified in arson investigation and they are working hand-in-hand with the fire marshal’s office,” Kozlowsky told the Herald. “We’re at the stage where we’re trying to determine it was an accident or arson.”

The fire did spread to and damage neighboring business Better Packages, Inc. Aside fro a firefighter's sprained ankle, no one was injured.
