Alleged SHS 'Threat' Was Rumor

The following is a letter from Shelton Schools Supt. Freeman Burr.
This is just a note to let you know that I was at Shelton High School this morning and everything is fine. The school is operating just like any other day.

Administration and school security were on alert this morning and there was greater police presence in the building for student arrival.

It must be clearly understood and noted that the alleged threat was just a rumor and no threat was confirmed or substantiated as having been made at all! It was fueled through social media.

I am very proud of our SHS students, staff and administration for their commitment to education and their collective efforts to allay everyone's concerns. They move forward from this incident to continue the quest as educated students in order to find their niche as future citizens and leaders in the world. After all, they are GAELS!

In closing, I want to briefly, acknowledge the 50th Anniversary of the assassination of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy. He was the first President elect that I can remember, vividly as a child. Although JFK may have been flawed as a person, I will always visualize him as a vigorous President, standing tall on the brink of nuclear war during the Cuban missile crises. His courage during that time made me proud to be an American and allayed my fears as a youngster.

Please feel free to call me with any questions or concerns.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Freeman Burr

Superintendent
