The dogs now rule in Rocky Hill

The town of Rocky Hill use to belong to the Dinosaurs, but just recently it has gone to the Dogs. More on that later. The Dinosaurs though stand rich in tradition with the town. As most of us know during the excavation of a State Building i...n 1966, the imprints of dinosaurs were found that date back 200 million years. This discovery prompted the end of the building and the beginning of Dinosaur State Park. It is here you can view the tracks in the museum that was built around them. Surrounding the museum there are 2 miles worth of hiking trails. More recently, but not to recent the town of Rocky Hill was found in 1849 when it broking off from Wethersfield, which now lays to its north. It is here on the town's shoreline of the Connecticut River we found more history that predates the town. The Rocky Hill/ Glastonbury Ferry is the oldest continuous running ferry in the United States. Since 1655, the ferry has transported visitors, commuters and their vehicles back and forth across the Connecticut River. During the time the ferry was been operated by a raft and a pol and then a horse on a treadmill. More recently the operation is handled by a diesel towboat that pulls along a barge. Over 350 years of history and still going strong. The town that is named after a ridge that stands to it's northeast section of town became famous in the Sports Illustrated Magazine in 2005. The town was voted by the magazine the number 1 sports town in the state of Connecticut. There are many other things about the town that make it number 1 to many. Elm Ridge Park, located here in town has over 75 acres of pure joy. This park includes a town swimming pool, a pavilion, plus basketball courts and baseball fields. There is also a amphitheater for entertainment and a kids play scape for the kiddies. To top it off, the Town's Dog Park which is located here just won top Dog Park in the state per the Hartford Advocated. So as you can see there are many things here in Rocky Hill, that make it number 1. The dinosaurs once ruled here, but now its all about mans best friend.
