Obituary: Michael Piccolo, Age 62

Michael James. Piccolo, age 62, of Shelton entered into rest on Tuesday, January 22, 2013, in the arms of his devoted wife of 38 years, Diane Iannone Piccolo and surrounded by his entire family. Mike was born in New York City, NY on October 31, 1950, son of the late Salvatore and Anna (Oliva) Piccolo, Sr. and was a Shelton resident for all of his life.

He was a graduate of Shelton High School Class of 1968, a 1970 graduate of the Culinary Institute of America of New Haven, and a 1972 graduate of Pratt Institute. Mike has been associated with many restaurants throughout his career, including the former Romano’s in Derby and the former Sante’s Manor in Milford. He was the former owner of the Coppermine Inn in Oxford, the former owner of Piccolo’s Sunnyside Deli in Shelton, the former chef at Sam’s Luncheonette in Derby, and most recently was a chef at Marshall Lane Manor in Derby. He was also a member of the 1981 World Champion Hurricanes Drum & Bugle Corp. Mike loved spending time with his family at his favorite beaches in Narragansett, Cape Cod, and Ft. Lauderdale.

He is the beloved father of Rachel Bottone and her husband Fred and Angela DiMauro and her husband Gino. He is the adoring grandfather of Sam and Ava Bottone, and Dominic and Sontino DiMauro. He is the cherished brother of Anthony J. Piccolo and his wife Rose, Louise Picciotti and her husband Robert, and the late Salvatore Piccolo, Jr. He is also survived by many nephews who he considered his sons including Nicholas Iannone and special several nieces. He was predeceased by two nephews, Keith Mazerolle and Salvatore Piccolo, III.

Friends may greet his family on Friday from 3 to 7 PM in the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton. On Saturday his funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10:15 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 in St. Margaret Mary Church, Shelton. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery, Derby.
